Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) invites applications for the position of Part-Time Lifeguard. The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of members, ages 6-18, at the pool facility by maintaining constant surveillance of the members, preventing and responding to emergencies, and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and surrounding areas. In fulfillment of these responsibilities the Lifeguard might be called upon to perform water rescue, first aid, and/or CPR. The Lifeguard will also be expected to create a safe and positive and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement. Hours are typically 2 p.m. - 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Friday.


  • Current Lifeguard Certification from recognized source of training.
  • High school diploma required, Associates degree from accredited college or university or BA/BS preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience working as lifeguard; experience working with children in a group setting and/or camp counselor experience a plus.
  • Swim Instructor Certification and/or Water Safety Instructor Certification a plus.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Enthusiasm and patience for working with children and passion about education, health, character development and leadership.
  • Must be a team player and a self-starter.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • A high degree of independence, flexibility, self-motivation, and creativity.
  • Responsibility
  • Maintains constant surveillance of members as they use the pool facility.
  • Monitor and periodically inspect the pool facility and facility equipment for potential threats to safety.
  • Takes appropriate action when children are injured, including both minor incidents and major accidents. Documents all types of accidents and incidents and provides to Manager or Site Coordinator/ Club Director for review before providing the information to the parent on the day of the occurrence.
  • Understands and complies with universal precautions to avoid contact with and control blood borne pathogens
  • Completes and/or reviews written documentation for behavioral incidents and provides those reports to the Manager or Site Coordinator/ Club Director.
  • Appropriately reports any instances of abuse and neglect of children, as required, as a mandated reporter.
  • Consistently enforces and reviews Club rules with current and new members. Executes emergency procedures.Job Type: Part-time
