Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) invites applications for the position of Tutor. The Tutor will assist children in the development of reading and math skills for 20 hours each week. All grade levels are available. Hours during the school year are typically between the hours of 2 p.m. - 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a year round position with the opportunity for as many as 40 hours per week over the summer typically between the hours of 7 a.m. - 6 p.m, Monday through Friday.

  • BA/BS Required 
  • Experience in structured tutoring environment or Elementary Education teaching certificate preferred.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of mathmatic subject areas and English subject area (Reading and Writing).
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Enthusiasm and patience for working with children and passion about education.
  • Excellent student interaction skills in 1:1 and small group settings.
  • Knowledge of tutoring practices and procedures.
  • Open to new ways of teaching math and reading skills and working with children.
  • Must be a team player and a self-starter.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • A high degree of independence, flexibility, self-motivation, and creativity.
  • Possess or willing to obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications within first three months of employment.
  • Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.


  • Teaches math and reading skills to members from across ability levels and varies instruction accordingly.
  • Coordinates academic tutorials including individualized and group tutoring, tutor/mentor training, and academic skills workshops.
  • Ensures that lessons are planned with clear goals and objectives.
  • Effectively implements academic activities with students, either one-on-one or with small groups.
  • Encourages members to be involved in their own learning by reviewing their progress against their goals.
  • Works as a team member with other staff members to support student's academic success.
  • Facilitates positive study habits.
  • Serves as liaison between student and the school staff by maintaining records of students' progress, assessment results, and providing feedback.
  • Ensures supervision of students at all times.
  • Establishes and maintains student forms and files as required.
