Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) invites applications for the rewarding position of Social Worker. The Social Worker will perform a variety of case management activities consistent with the Check and Connect Student Engagement and Intervention model designed to enhance student engagement at school and with learning for marginalized, disengaged middle and high school students. The Social Worker will assist students in the development and achievement of personal and academic goals through relationship building, problem solving and capacity building, and persistence to reach the goal of school completion with academic and social competence. Qualifications

  • Master of Social Work required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience successfully working with high risk, middle and high school aged students.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of social work theories and processes.
  • Ability to provide in-depth assessments and intervention options.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of how to access community and mental health resources.
  • Ability to work effectively as member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Enthusiasm and patience for working with children and passion for serving at risk youth.
  • Excellent student interaction skills in 1:1 and small group settings.
  • Must be a team player and a self-starter.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • A high degree of independence, flexibility, self-motivation, and creativity.
  • Possess or willing to obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications within first three months of employment.
  • Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.


  • Meet daily to a minimum of weekly with student to review risk factors and check-in with the student.
  • Implement both basic and intensive interventions based on student needs.
  • Home visits are required.
  • Maintains a caseload of at risk-students to support and ensure graduation.
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers and principals regarding methods of helping students with problems and behavior dynamics.
  • Make social work diagnosis, decide on treatment plans/interventions, and provide social work services and/or connect to outside agencies.
  • Effectively implements activities with students, either one-on-one or with small groups.
  • Encourages members to be involved in their own learning by reviewing their progress against their goals.
  • Works as a team member with other staff members to support student's success.
  • Serves as liaison between student and the school staff by maintaining records of students' progress, assessment results, and providing feedback.
  • Ensures supervision of students at all times.
  • Establishes and maintains student forms and files as required.
  • Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Prepares activity reports.
  • Effectively completes assessments of programs and program participants using a variety of formal and informal assessment tools.
  • Reviews current programs and recommends changes based on performance data, member input and overall outcomes.
  • Inputs and gathers data, as appropriate, in the membership management and/or outcomes management system, works with other staff to implement special projects.
  • Works effectively with supervisor, other staff, members, parents, and community leaders and organizations to provide exemplary services to youth.
