Full Time Teen Tech Center Manager

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) invites applications for the position of Teen Tech Center Manager at our Herbert Hoover Club location. The Teen Tech Center Manager will manage an innovative new program space called the Best Buy Teen Tech Center (BBTTC). The BBTTC, sponsored by Best Buy and established with the support of the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network, will offer young people (ages 13 to 18) the opportunity to work on projects they find meaningful to their lives, using state-of-the-art technology and professional software tools. In the BBTTC, young people will find support and resources to pursue their interests and build upon their talents. They will be able to create art, music and animations; design their own science simulations and mobile applications; write and illustrate interactive poetry, stories, and film; build kinetic sculptures and robotic constructions; and design their own 3D worlds and games. The Teen Tech Center Manager is responsible for an outcome- driven Club experience that drives the Formula for Impact and membership.


Responsibilities include:

  • Provide community outreach to involve a diverse group of members, parents, teachers, and community leaders in the program.
  • Help teens develop projects (e.g., help them come up with ideas, gather materials, get started, locate mentors to work with them, and support their ongoing work).
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer mentors with various arts and digital media expertise, ensuring they work effectively with youth.
  • Support youth in planning for the future, including pursuing academic and job opportunities that leverage the skills and experience they gain in the Best Buy Teen Tech Center.
  • Provide basic computer maintenance, including file management, trouble-shooting, and technical support for the Center.
  • Provide youth workshops in one or more area(s): Robotics, Graphic Design, Film/Editing, Digital Photography, Gaming and/or Animation.
  • Provide administrative support for the program, including program/grant reporting, keeping records of participants and keeping the space organized.
  • Assist in fund-raising and publicity for the Best Buy Teen Tech Center, communicating its philosophy, goals, and results to external sources.
  • Participate in the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network, attending Network meetings/conferences, sharing ideas and issues, and supporting collaborative projects around the world.
  • Support other programs and activities of BGCSTL with Teen Tech Center expertise and resources, as time permits.
  • Perform other general administrative and technical tasks to aid in the operations of the Teen Tech Center.
  • Plans activities and implements programming, including group activities, guest speakers, and field trips.
  • Effectively completes assessments of programs and program participants using a variety of formal and informal assessment tools.
  • Supervises part time youth development professionals.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Expertise in one or more of the following: Robotics, Graphic Design, Film/Editing, Digital Photography, Gaming and/or Animation
  • Good rapport with teaching and interacting with teens
  • Proven track record working with youth, in particular in an informal learning environment;
  • Evidence of interest in technology as a creative and empowering tool;
  • Demonstrated ability to reach out to youth, parents, educators, and community leaders;
  • Interpersonal skills, including an ability to get along with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities and a talent for making people feel welcome and included;
  • A passion for learning and helping others to learn;
  • A high degree of independence, flexibility, self-motivation, and creativity.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Minimum of one to three years prior technology training to youth is also required.
  • Strong administrative and project management skills is a plus.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to multi-task and provide a high level of professionalism and phone etiquette.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Power Point, Excel and Access.
  • Professional demeanor and attire required.
  • Ability to systematically link program activities to program goals to achieve predetermined outcomes for youth.
  • Can observe and assesses what youth know and can do in order to provide curriculum that meets their developmental learning needs.
  • Develops supportive relationships with children and youth, works to guide and empower them as individuals as well as being part of a group. Builds a trusting relationship with children as a foundation for positive guidance and self-discipline.
  • Enthusiasm and patience for working with children and passion about education.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to details.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to manage and organize several tasks at one time.
  • Must be a team player and a self-starter.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • A high degree of independence, flexibility, self-motivation, and creativity.
  • Possess or willing to obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications within first three months of employment.
  • Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.
