Academic Coordinator

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Directs/manages overall academic operations of the 21st Century CLC site with primary concern for academic goals, Illinois learning standards, tutoring and mentoring of students. Serves as the liaison between the school day academics program staff and the 21st Century program.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with school staff and teachers, including the district curriculum advisor, on continuity between the school day academics and 21st Century after school programming. Promotes and stimulates cooperative relationships between 21st Century staff, teachers and the school.
  2. Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the overall educational aspects of the program. Prepares academic goals for the program and for individual youth based on their needs. Plans and directs program implementation by the teachers and program assistants during academic program time.
  3. Plans the academic program schedule to include:

Remedial math and reading improvement through small group instruction, using school endorsed curriculums tied to Illinois Learning Standards;

Project Learn;

Power Hour daily homework help and tutoring;

Technology education;

Mentoring.

  1. Ties academic programs to school and student specific areas of weakness as reflected in School Report Card and ISAT scores, utilizing Illinois Learning Standards.

  1. Fulfills all delegated administrative functions in a timely and comprehensive manner.
  1. Assists site director in the direct supervision of academic staff.

TITLE: 21st Century CLC Academic Coordinator

  1. Represents the site and interprets B&GCB and site objectives, standards and programs to school staff.
  1. Promotes and stimulates enrollment in the site through establishing relationships with school site administration and teachers.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assumes other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close contact with school personnel, site coordinator and site staff.

External: Maintains contact with community groups, school site administration, teachers, participants' parents and other to assist in addressing issues, resolving problems and publicizing the site and B&GCB. Maintains positive relationships with the public, vendors, etc. to promote in kind donations, sponsorships, and volunteers.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, certified teacher.
  • A minimum of one years work experience as a teacher.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standing for long periods of time (up to 50% of day).
  • Sitting as needed.
  • Full use of all limbs and at least one hand.
  • Full verbal, color vision, and hearing ability.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to intervene in controlling youth, if necessary, ages 6 to 18.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May be exposed to moderate to loud noise; unruly or irate youth and/or parents.
  • May be exposed to potentially dangerous situations including youth fighting or bringing unauthorized materials onto premises.
  • May be exposed to potentially dangerous medical situations; exposure to airborne diseases or infected blood while treating participants.
