Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) invites applications for the position of full time Athletics Manager. The Athletics Manager will direct daily operation of BGCSTL internal and external league and sports affiliations with the primary concern to direct and implement, supervise, deliver and evaluate a broad range of sports programs such as, football, basketball, softball, baseball, soccer etc.  The Athletics Manager plans, develops, implements and supervises programs, sports leagues and staff and performs related administrative duties.  The responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to: recruitment of participants, scheduling, obtaining officials and coaches, inventory/inspection/purchase of equipment and game field preparation.  Must be able to plan, supervise, and administer special events.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required, Associates degree from accredited college or university or BA/BS preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the basic methods and techniques of organizing and scheduling groups into teams and leagues for various athletic sports activities.
  • Ability to recruit and use volunteers effectively; basic skills in officiating major sports; ability to work cooperatively with other employees and community partners.
  • Ability to deal with the general public.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to details.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to manage and organize several tasks at one time.
  • Enthusiasm and patience for working with children and passion about character and leadership development through participation in sports.
  • Must be a team player and a self-starter.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • A high degree of independence, flexibility, self-motivation, and creativity.
  • Possess or willing to obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications within first three months of employment.
  • Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to volunteers in management of their teams. Attend and participate in team and league meetings and trainings to keep sites advised of issues.
  • Provide safety instructions to coaches/team managers prior to each league. Conduct safety evaluation following completion of league play.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment by inspecting league athletic equipment and maintaining a comprehensive and up-to-date inventory list of all equipment owned and/or used during league programming.
  • Coordinates the use of athletic fields and gyms at site locations and throughout the immediate area in conjunction with school officials, civic organizations, athletic assistants, and other Club departments.
  • Conducts a continuous evaluation of sports programs by doing monthly and quarterly evaluations and reports, and submitting those results to the Vice President of Operations.
  • Recruit, train and manage assigned volunteers, coaches, officials and staff; provide ongoing feedback; and identify and support development opportunities.
  • Supervise part time youth development professionals on game days/ tournaments
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with parents, public, civic groups and social agencies within the community. Represents the organization and interprets its objectives, standards and programs. 
  • Hold parent/player/volunteer open houses/orientations prior to and following all leagues. Goal should be to familiarize families and players with Club facilities and staff and invite them to participate in other Club programs.
  • Works effectively with supervisor, other staff, members, parents, and community leaders and organizations to provide exemplary services to youth.
