Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis invites applications for the position of Director, Safety. The Director of Safety will maintain a safe and secure environment for members, employees and visitors by helping to develop, establish and enforce safety policies, access control procedures, accident prevention efforts, oversee risk management efforts, fire, safety, emergency management, and asset protection. The Director of Safety performs tasks in developing, implementing, and managing programs designed to effectively address Club safety needs. Director of Safety is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive Club safety program, which includes working with local law enforcement agencies, health and welfare organizations, and offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates a comprehensive safety program, policies and procedures by studying organization operations and schedules; establishing internal controls; conducting inspections as appropriate; reporting potential hazards to appropriate departments; creating and updating BGCSTL Board policies and Standard Operating Procedures, safety manuals.

Coordinates Club safety compliance with federal, state and local regulations by studying existing and new requirements and overseeing and enforcing Club-wide adherence to requirements.

Coordinates safety planning and practice to support programmatic processes of each Club by creatively implementing best practices in safety and emergency preparedness with proper adaptation to the environment, creativity and innovation so the process of youth development can be enhanced rather than impeded by safety efforts.

Serves as a liaison with local law enforcement agencies, health and welfare organizations and offices.

Maintains an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of Club safety requirements through BGCA, compliance and reporting responsibilities and related legal benchmarks from federal and state law.

Coordinates safety and emergency preparedness training by developing, scheduling and/or facilitating training for staff, members and public safety officials relating to Club safety and emergency preparedness.

Conducts training of personnel in areas of safety, including first aid, CPR, AED, accident prevention, abuse prevention, emergency management, and investigation, work place inspections and other matters related to implementing safety procedures at Clubs.

Assures annual and pre-employment safety training is conducted as scheduled.

Works with appropriate departments to meet operational safety needs within budget; works with Finance, Facilities and Maintenance departments for capital improvements as needed; schedules expenditures.

Coordinates with site-based administrators, Maintenance and Facilities Departments to address and correct safety/security issues at Club.

Keeps in compliance with and abreast of all OSHA regulations.

Secures facilities, equipment, members and personnel by working in conjunction with the appropriate departments in recommending safety and security equipment purchases and upgrades; maintaining records of fire and other emergency drills and conducting drills when appropriate; supervising and maintaining access control and key distribution

Safety Director reviews the need for security, video surveillance, and/or fire detection system in the Club. Safety Director will be involved in reviewing the plans and proposal with the President.

Develops a close working relationship with the local fire marshal.

Manages data regulatory requirements and health and safety compliance by communicating with federal, state, county, city, police and fire to obtain information on hazardous conditions/materials, accidents, regulations, licenses, inspections, codes, laws, etc.; disseminating the information to the appropriate personnel; and tracking data as required


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Background Clearance required.

Experience: Demonstrated professional work experience on at least one of the primary fields related to this position: Youth Development, Education, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Management, and Risk Management. Experience working within a school or youth-serving organization desired.

Must possess a valid driver's license and evidence of insurability.
