Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteers are instrumental in uniting Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis to the community it serves.  The Volunteer Coordinator is the organization's primary point of contact for all volunteer inquiries.  This position requires a highly motivated individual who uses their interpersonal and administrative skills to work closely with BGCSTL staff in order to provide meaningful service opportunities to 1300 volunteers who assist in the delivery of BGCSTL's programs and services. The Volunteer Coordinator screens, trains, manages, and provides ongoing support for all volunteers, oversees the application and scheduling process for all volunteers; and ensures the quality of volunteer service that directly corresponds with the quality of programs.



  1. Bachelor's degree preferred; significant work experience can substitute for degree.
  2. Computer and training experience preferred.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skill both in person and by phone.
  4. Exemplary organizational, planning, and multi-tasking skills.
  5. Ability to manage, network with, and motivate staff, volunteers, and clientele.
  6. Ability to maintain confidential information.
  7. Ability to organize and maintain detailed records, complete necessary paperwork, and meet deadlines.
  8. Ability to handle high work volume, prioritize urgent issues, and remain focused on full scope tasks.



  1. Develops and maintains volunteer guidelines, materials, and procedures.
  2. Publicizes and conducts meetings to recruit new volunteers as well as increase the volunteer support base. Holds volunteer orientations to provide clear and concise overview of volunteer programs to all volunteer applicants to ensure accurate and up-to-date information is provided to educate volunteers and their contacts. Interviews volunteer applicants and provide follow-up as necessary. Reviews and updates volunteer application materials and guidelines. Recruits, screens, and trains volunteers in specified job areas in accordance with the organization's procedures.
  3. Screen, certify, place, train, manage and provide ongoing support for all program volunteers.
  4. Serve as the primary point of initial contact for applicants and respond promptly to all volunteer inquiries; maintain accurate records of all volunteers in application process; identify and invite eligible and qualified volunteer applicants to join volunteer team.
  5. Schedule, in collaboration with programs, volunteers through online volunteer management systems (VolunteerTrax) for volunteers.
  6. Supervises and evaluates the ongoing work performance of volunteers.
